Congratulations on your decision to open your heart and home to a pet in need!

You’ve searched high and low and finally found the pet you would like to adopt. What’s next? Our adoption counselors are experienced in finding the perfect match between adoptees and potential pets.

PFA’s Adoption Process

After you’ve found a pet online through PFA’s petfinder listings or by visiting an adoption day, you will fill out an application.

Once your application is submitted, an adoption counselor will review it with the specific needs of the pet in mind. Your references, landlord (if applicable) and veterinarian may also be called during the review process. If the counselor feels it is a good match, you will then receive a call to arrange an interview (in-person or by telephone) and a home visit.

Adoption fees vary from $200-350 depending on the age and breed of the animal. This fee includes Rabies and Distemper vaccinations, spay or neuter surgery prior to adoption, a Microchip and registration.

All animals will be vaccinated and spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

*PLEASE NOTE: Adoptions DO NOT take place at our Hillside and Robbinsville clinics. Animals available for adoption through People for Animals DO NOT reside at our Hillside and Robbinsville clinics and, as such, ARE NOT available for viewing at these locations.
