Help bring animals home for the holidays
The number of people seeking help from our Whole Families Program has more than tripled; previously, two out of ten Program members were living in a car or tent with their pet, but now that number has risen to seven out of ten Program members. To help these families overcome their crises, we place their beloved animal companions in our Foster Homes. PFA provides much-needed vet care, food, supplies, attention, and affection to these pets — while simultaneously helping their humans navigate difficult social service systems, and finally find assistance. These are long-term challenges: animals are typically in PFA’s care for anywhere from 12 to 16 months!
But all that the hard work is worth it, so we can share in the success with YOU:

Sox and Sunny Bunny are inseparable Maine Coon-mix brothers, who lived with their mother through tough times. As her health began to fail, the trio found themselves living in mom’s car. Socks is a very gentle older brother who likes to groom Sunny, but he started to struggle with all the noise and activity of homelessness. This family needed relief, and found it with People for Animals.
We placed Sox and Sunny in our Foster care, while we helped their mom recover in the hospital. Our Foster volunteers were kind, generous, patient, and incredibly supportive of Sox and Sunny’s mom, so she could focus on fully healing. Now she’s overcome her issues and has a new home for herself and her cats!

Mittens and her mom went through a tumultous time; after a plan to relocate for a job fell through, mom was left scrambling to find her footing. She was able to find temporary stay with a family member, but there was no place for Mittens. To make matters worse, her other cat Onyx sadly passed away from a heart attack, earlier in the year. Mom found steady work and the plan was for Mittens to only need a short stay in Foster, but it ended up taking her months to find an affordable apartment, and the separation took its toll on the two of them. Thankfully, Mom has finally saved up enough for a new home for her and Mittens together!

Gianna is a two-year-old Border Collie who has only known life with her dad. When he started having health troubles and needed to enter the hospital for an extended stay, he reached out to PFA for help. Gianna is a social butterfly who loves to play and gets along well with children and cats! But the new environment made her nervous; our Foster was kind and gentle to this girl, and helped her work on her potty training. This relief was vital for Gianna and her human, who is now back home with his pup!

Buffy and Jayda love their papa, a proud working veteran; even though he had a job, he still struggled with affordable housing and sadly became homeless. Buffy and Jayda entered our Foster care, while we helped their dad, who still insisted on trying to pay for their veterinary expenses. With the help of PFA, he now has an apartment to share with his two precious cats, and all three are cuddling together in their very own home!
Just before Thanksgiving, all six pets wrapped up their Foster stays and were reunited with their families!
With renewed health and new beginnings, these four luckly families are celebrating their holidays together!
We could not achieve these victories without YOU. For over 40 years, we have been guided by the belief that veterinary care should be affordable for all families, regardless of their financial situation. We have seen the results: our mission saves lives.
We have more pets in foster care hoping to be reunited with their families soon. Our clinic services like spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and microchips, reach daily capacity. And the cost of providing veterinary care has dramatically spiked by half-a-million dollars.
The only way we can uphold our mission of affordable veterinary care is with charitable support. Every donation allows us to reach another vulnerable animal and provide vital relief to their familiy-in-need.
I am excited to announce that, thanks to the generous sponsorhip of partners who wish to remain anonymous, every donation PFA receives between TODAY and December 31, 2025, will be matched up to $20,000! No gift is too small and there’s no time like the present to give back, as your impact will be DOUBLED and help TWICE as many furry friends.
On behalf of everyone at People for Animals, thank you for support this holiday season!

Donate to PFA’s Programs and Services

Give in support of our veterinary services, including essential spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, microchips, and preventative testing! As New Jersey’s largest provider of spay/neuter surgeries, we provide care to over 36,000 animals a year, whether they are beloved pets, adoptable companions, or community cats. Your charity helps us keep our treatments as affordable as possible for all the vulnerable members of our community.

Contribute to the Whole Families Program: PFA’s signature program embraces the One Health approach to help a pet’s human family members and their life circumstances, and achieve the noble goal of keeping whole families together.
***

Donate to the Sweet Pea Fund: Inspired by the sweet senior dog who did not let her past damper her capacity for love and now provides an enduring legacy to other animals; struggling families can have up to 100% of the medical costs covered for their pet’s life-saving treatment at People For Animals.

Become a Compassionate Caregiver: set up a recurring monthly donation to PFA! A few dollars every month helps us cover our expenses, while keeping services as affordable as possible for everyone in the community!
Other Ways You Can Support PFA
Stock our Pet Pantries with food and supplies: Pantries are for Whole Families Program participants, who are suffering from food & housing insecurity. You can help keep these pets warm and well-fed all winter long!
Volunteer as a PFA Foster Home: When crisis strikes, families must often enter shelters, where pets are not allowed. Our Whole Families Program steps in, providing vet care, food & supplies. You provide a safe, temporary home for their pets. Open your doors and help keep families whole!

Many employers will match your donations at no additional cost; this means you can potentially triple the impact of your gift to PFA! Contact your employer’s HR department to see if your company offers matching gifts. If your employer participates, complete the request form they will provide to you. We are available to help supply any extra details they might need to complete the request; connect with us at donations@pfaonline.org and we’ll help you promptly!
