Dior, Dutchez and Diamond

Our Whole Families Program intervenes when our clients experience a crisis and fear they may be forced to surrender their beloved pets.  It takes time to solve these challenges, but the reward is worth the wait!  We began helping Dior, Dutchez, and Diamond, a trio of cat siblings, along with their humans, “Q and L,” in the summer of 2024.  They were not able to locate a shelter across NJ / NYC that allowed them to stay united with their cats, while they got back on their feet.  Dutchez has Cerebellar hypoplasia (aka “CH”), a neurological disorder that affects a cat’s balance and fine motor skills, and can cause tremors and impair their ability to walk; naturally her parents feel very protective of her.  “Q and L” thought they achieved a moment of relief with an outside foster program, but a tragedy occurred when their fourth cat Draco passed away while not in their care. 

They retrieved their surviving pets and came to PFA in tears, hoping we could do something for their precious companions. We leapt to their aid immediately, and placed them all in the WFP.

Dutchez, Diamond, and Dior received ongoing discounted vaccine treatments from our vets, and were cared for at a trusted PFA Foster Home.  The feline trio got to play and socialize with other cats in our foster care – and Dutchez did not let CH hold her back!  Meanwhile, our staff Social Worker helped “Q and L” get into a homeless shelter, provided them with housing resources, and shared regular updates on their kitties!

Finally, after 16 months of aid, “Q and L” were able to secure a stable apartment, and excitedly reunited with Dutchez, Diamond, and Dior in their new home!
