Kim has been an animal lover for her entire life, with a soft spot for cats. For twelve years, she’s been the proud mother of an Orange Tabby named Phoebe, and for Kim, her feline companion was a “dream come true” who she absolutely loved. Kim has always been a responsible pet parent, utilizing PFA’s services since Phoebe was a kitten. She always appreciated the relationship she had with her veterinarian, trying to give back when she could by donating supplies.
Unfortunately, Kim suffered a housing crisis in 2022 and became homeless. She tried to find support for Phoebe from several organizations, but with many groups burdened by the overpopulation of cats, she found it difficult to receive any consistent guidance. Kim was even brought to tears when one facility advised her to place Phoebe outside. As she recalled, “Phoebe is very particular about her momma… Me! And I love her just the same.”
Soon, Kim was able to find temporary housing with a family member, but was not able to bring Phoebe with her, which felt devastating. She asked herself: “How will she survive without me, and how would I survive without her?”
In this moment, she turned to Phoebe’s vet at People For Animals, who immediately connected her to our WFP Director. Through this Program, Kim was provided resources, while her cat received a shave, nail trim and updated shots. But most importantly, PFA secured a temporary foster home for Phoebe. Kim reflected on this period with endless gratitude: “I couldn’t ask for a better turnout to keeping my cat in a safe and loving environment. As I transition to find stable housing, it relieves me to know my fur baby is safe, loved and cared for properly. This is the first time we’ve been separated, and I miss her so very much. However, I am forever grateful to PFA and the services they provide. The staff there are all so loving, professional, and attentive to each pet’s needs. I am so thankful this organization exists. The doctors and staff work endlessly, yet still keep a smile and pleasant attitude toward their clients…. PFA gave me hope in a time when I was hopeless. Grateful is not even close to how this place and staff warmed my heart!”
This story achieved a happy ending just in time for Christmas 2022 when Kim obtained permanent housing and was reunited with Phoebe!
