Mimi is a spunky pug that has accomplished so much, at age thirteen-and-a-half. Adopted as a puppy, she has spent her whole life surrounded by a loving family, including her parents Joy and Tim, and dog, cat, and human siblings. If that wasn’t enough, Mimi also achieved her Canine Good Citizen certification and spent several years volunteering as a certified therapy dog at a nearby medical center, before finally enjoying her retirement!

Recently Mimi’s health took a turn for the worse: she lost interest in food and had an unusual discharge; her family immediately knew something was wrong. Mimi was suffering from a pyometra, a life-threatening uterine infection. Her only hope was a spay surgery and time was running out. They called their vet right away, who sent them to a nearby emergency room, but, as Joy tells us: “they were just out of reach financially… the vet office wanted $4,000 for the surgery, which we do not have.”

Luckily, Joy was given a life-saving referral to People For Animals and quickly brought Mimi to our Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. David Croman, who performed the vital operation. Joy found that Dr. Croman was an “amazing surgeon” and happily let us know that Mimi “did great! She is home and resting comfortably … it is nothing short of a miracle, her treatment and recovery … Thank you, People for Animals for saving Mimi’s life.”
